What Does a Relocation Chart Change When You Move?

Add your birth details and a city to see your rising sign, Midheaven and planet houses redrawn for that place.

North and east are positive, south and west negative.

How it works

  1. Add your birth details

Fill in the date, clock time and town of your birth. Rising signs and houses depend on the time, so add one even if it is a close guess.
  2. Choose a city

Pick any place you are curious about, from a town you might move to or somewhere you plan to spend a few months.
  3. Compare the two versions

Read the new rising sign and Midheaven first, then see which house each planet moves from and to, such as house 9 becoming house 5.

A relocation chart keeps your birth moment and swaps your birthplace for another city, so your planets stay in the same signs and degrees while your rising sign, Midheaven and houses change. Enter your birth details and any city here to see the new rising sign and Midheaven, along with each planet's house at birth and in that city. It is free and needs no account. Astrologers use it to ask how a chart reads from a particular place.

What stays and what moves

Think of your birth chart as a photo of the sky, with the planets fixed in place. A relocation chart keeps that same photo and changes the spot on Earth you view it from.

What stays the same: every planet's sign and degree. If your Sun is in Gemini, it stays in Gemini wherever you go.

What changes: the rising sign (the sign coming up over the eastern horizon), the Midheaven (the highest point of the chart) and the houses. Houses are the 12 sections of a chart, each tied to a part of life, and planets can land in a different one from city to city.

Maya's chart in three cities

Maya's birth moment is 2:30 pm, June 10, 1990, New York City. Here is that moment read from three places.

Moon in CapricornHouse 4House 12House 8
Venus in TaurusHouse 8House 3House 12
Jupiter in CancerHouse 10House 6House 2

The sign in each planet row never changes. Only the house does. In Tokyo, Maya's Sun moves into house 1, the house of how you appear to others, and astrologers would see the Sun's themes of confidence and being seen as much more on show there. In New York, that same Sun sits in house 9, tied to study, travel and widening your view of things.

How to read it in three checks

Start with the new rising sign. It is tied to the impression you give and the way you start new things. A change here is the headline. Maya goes from Libra in New York to Capricorn in Tbilisi. The rising sign calculator looks at this one change more closely.

Then look at the new Midheaven. Astrologers connect it with your public side: what you aim for and how the wider world sees you.

Then find the planets that moved to houses 1, 4, 7 and 10. These four begin at the rising sign, the lowest point of the chart, the setting point and the Midheaven, so planets here count as especially prominent. Maya's Jupiter sits in house 10 in New York and Sun in house 1 in Tokyo, and those are the placements an astrologer would point to first.

What each house is about

World map with all 48 planetary lines for Maya, born June 10, 1990 in New York, with her best overall city marked

  1. How you appear to others and how you begin things
  2. What you earn and value, and your sense of security
  3. Everyday learning, conversation and getting around locally
  4. Home, roots and your private base
  5. Play, creativity, romance and what you do for fun
  6. Daily routines and how you organise an ordinary day
  7. One-to-one partnerships and agreements
  8. What you share with others, trust and deep change
  9. Study, long journeys, beliefs and wider horizons
  10. Public standing and what you work toward
  11. Friends, groups and shared hopes
  12. Quiet, rest and things done behind the scenes

Maya's Moon shows how this works. It moves from house 4 in New York, tied to home and roots, to house 12 in Tbilisi, tied to quiet and retreat.

How it fits with your map

The astrocartography map and the relocation chart show one birth moment in two ways. The map answers where in the world each line runs. The relocation chart answers what your whole chart looks like in one city. They often tell a matching story: Tbilisi is 22 km from Maya's Moon rising line, and in the Tbilisi chart the Moon sits in house 12, right next to the rising sign.

A simple order works well. Use the map to find candidates, then open a relocation chart for each one. If you have no places in mind yet, where to live gives you a first city to start from.

Getting more from it

  • Try the same chart in several cities one after another and note what moves.
  • Look for changes around the themes you care about. If home is the point, watch house 4 and the planets arriving there.
  • Use the time from your birth record if you can, because rising signs and houses are the parts most sensitive to it.

FAQ

Does a relocation chart change my planets?

No. Each planet keeps the sign and degree it had when you were born. Your rising sign, Midheaven and houses are what get recalculated, so a planet can land in a different house while staying in the same sign.

How do I read my relocation chart?

Look at the new rising sign first, then the new Midheaven, then any planets now in houses 1, 4, 7 or 10. Astrologers treat those as the most prominent changes. After that, read where the planets you care about most have landed.

What is the difference between astrocartography, a relocation chart and a birth chart?

A birth chart shows the sky from your birthplace. An astrocartography map shows that same sky as lines across the world. A relocation chart shows it from one chosen city. Same birth moment, three viewpoints.

Does my birth chart stop counting after I move?

Your birth chart stays exactly as it was, since it describes the moment you were born. Astrologers read a relocation chart as something to look at alongside it, adding a local angle on the same chart.

Do I have to live in a city for its chart to matter?

No, you can open a chart for anywhere without any plan to go. It works just as well for a long trip or a place you are only considering, and you can compare it with your birth chart before making any plan.

Can I use a relocation chart without my birth time?

The rising sign and houses depend on the birth time, so you need one for a meaningful result. If you are unsure, enter your best estimate and keep in mind that the rising sign and houses could shift with a different time.

Is this relocation chart free?

Yes. You can run it for any city without an account. Your name and gender play no part, and the time zone at your birth, including old daylight saving rules, is worked out for you.
